VeLo ♥ LoVe

Had a fun little impromptu photo shoot with my friend Linda from North Bay Studios the other night.

Do you know how hard it is for me to NOT smile
I felt the urge to glam up my look while getting my cholo on, hence the long black gown.

low rider bikes :: knuckle rings :: pit bulls :: Nike Cortez's

This is Cookie's first debut as a model, and I think she did fabulous.. even though in some of the shots she was more interested in the stray cats that her close up. that's ok bb, it's now your signature look.

enjoy me being a goof ball ( : P)

ohhhh the kisses xx

sorry mom

dirty laundry

Sometimes when you go to the laundomat, you get more than what you originally bargained for.

Like your best friend snapping pictures of you hopping from machine to machine, while everyone stares. Thats ok, I think I gave them a good show. Lou and I were headed to dinner, but he had to do chores first. I showed up in full hood rat fashion, because I thought it would be the perfect setting for my outfit pictures.

You be the judge

beanie- Brandy Melville, tee- Transfromers from Forever 21, flannel- Target (little boys section), shorts- Black and Brown, socks- forgot : / shoes- Vans, bag- LV

slather me down

With all the warm weather California has been experiencing lately, it has put me in the mood for summer. Time to plan the backyard bar-b-ques, beach days and camping trips.

Bar-b-ques hold a soft spot in my heart, because they were a big part of my childhood. Both of my parents are very outdoors-y.. well not, dirt//hike//camp "outdoors" because that certainly ISNOT my mom. But both of them sure are; love nature, wildlife, sunshine on your face, garden growing "type" people. My parents have big decks in their backyard because they love outdoor entertaining. So as soon as the evening weather turned warm (around mid March) my mom would utilize the backyard and dining would be moved outdoors. Sitting for a hours- enjoying hors d'oeuvres, cheese//crackers, fresh fish or thick chops.. while listening to old stories wasn't a normal favorite for children. But my sister and I were far from normal...

So now when the weather turns nice.. that's what I crave.
nostalgia

On a more delicious note. Here are three marinades I am dying to try.
AND remember- all will taste better if you can allow them to sit in a resealable bag or glass dish overnight!!

Doesn't the Hawaiian one sound divine on chicken or pork tenderloin?
aloha :)

That's What She Said | Perception and Confidence

This is a video that my friend sent to me. <3

And I have never felt so empowered as a woman before in my life.

If you want that feeling of security, strength and self love.. you need to watch this video.
'Cause sometimes the things we get self conscious about, or the judgement we feel or the names that we hear
...are all in our head.

recap snaps [[Big Sur]]

I think I have recommended the Post Ranch Inn to almost everyone I know, including some people I don't.. sorry guy at the coffee shop [wink] But honestly, it is on a whole 'nother level of amazingness.

The staff was so sweet and generous. Everyone I encountered had their own story of how they ended up on the ranch. And everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy their job. Which says a lot these days, because it's hard to find someone who truly loves what they do.. like this guy right above.

His passion for life is contagious. I find myself craving more of that and it is inspiring to know that there are others out there, like myself, who are always left wanting more.
and yes, that's a good thing.

enjoy my snaps from last weekend.

xx

spring time superfoods

I know people have been dropping like flies around my office lately. There is this nasty cold going around, and it kills you for about three weeks. The rain has finally graced Northern California with it's presence. Which means it's time to increase that Vitamin C and boost those immune systems. Here are some local fruits that are in {{ or, coming into}} season that are sure to help your health. Even if you aren't the one to purchase organic fruits and vegetables. Just remember, ALWAYS but these organic.

Asparagus
 A cup of asparagus contains 70 percent of your daily-recommended amount of vitamin K, which helps transport calcium to your bones, and 20 percent of your vitamin A, which helps your immune system. It's also a great source of protein and folate. Another reason to love asparagus? Eating it before your drink alcohol is known to ward off hangovers. {{bonus!!}}

Kale
My friend Amanda prompted this edit- I forgot to include purple kale! Which is her new found love. This tasty treat can be served up multiple ways. Each power packed bite offers cholestorol lowering fiber and antioxidant and anti inflamatory benefits.  It has also been linked to lowering your risk of ;bladder, breast, colon, ovary and prostate.

Fava beans
Quite possibly one of the oldest cultivated plants around, fava beans are staples in nearly every international cuisine, while in the U.S., they're often passed over for other domestic bean varieties. High in fiber and iron, fava beans are protein powerhouses, with 13 grams per cup of cooked beans.

Spinach
Spring is the best time of year to eat spinach, a crop that loves warm days and cold, nearly frosty nights, which bring out its natural sugars. In addition to being a great source of vitamin C and folate, two nutrients that strengthen your immune system and ward off allergies, spinach is also rich in a compound called betaine, which has been found to boost exercise performance.  Spinach contains lutein and zeaxanthin, two phytochemicals that may help prevent age-related macular degeneration.

Arugula
Tossing peppery arugula into your salads will keep them from getting too boring, and it provides you with a huge boost of magnesium, a mineral important for keeping your bones strong, your immune system healthy, and your muscles strong.

Carrots
High levels of Vitamin A in these guys, will help keep your eye site in tip top shape and it will aid in the cleansing of your liver too.  Plus the amount of  Beta-carotene has also been shown to protect against macular degeneration and senile cataracts.

Artichokes
They contain a compound called cynarin, which stimulates taste bud receptors and has been found to make bland food more palatable. Artichokes are also used in complementary medicine to aid digestion. They're rich in inulin, a prebiotic that promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria in your gut.
