stretches after cycling

As most of you know I am a huge advocate of incorporating stretching into your everyday routine. I am a avid yogi and truly believe that the practice helps center you psyche, calm your nerves, strengthen your body and rejuvenate your soul. Every morning when I get up, I have a little stretch routine I do before my feet hit the ground. It sets my pace for the day and wakes up my back.

These are some great stretches for after cycling that will help soothe your muscles and prepare you for your next ride. The first three are also good for you runners. And as a side note: when posing in Pigeon- don't worry as much about getting your hip on the ground, make sure you keep your hips in a straight line and your back leg in a straight line. Gravity will help you with the rest of the stretch.

Hip Flexors Stretch
The hip flexors pull the leg up and over the top of the pedal stroke; stretching prevents lower back pain when you amp up your intensity.

Kneel, as shown. Straighten your pelvis to align your pubic bone directly below your hip bones. Ease your hips down and forward, keeping your front knee directly over your ankle, and hold for 20 seconds. Repeat on the other side.

Quadriceps Stretch
Your quads produce power, and a limited range of motion prevents some muscle fibers from firing.

Lie on your stomach with your knees hip-width apart. Reach one arm back and grasp the opposite ankle. Slowly pull the heel in toward your buttocks. Keep your pelvis flat on the floor. Hold for 20 seconds, then repeat on the other side.

Calves Stretch
Tight calves and Achilles tendons force cyclists into an exaggerated, toe-down pedal stroke that transfers less power than a flatter foot. More flexible calves allow for a more powerful and efficient stroke—and also leave you less prone to cramping.

Stand with the balls of your feet on a step. Lower one heel to stretch through the calf, ankle, and Achilles tendon. Hold for 10 seconds, then repeat a second time. Switch and stretch the other side.
Glutes Stretch (Pigeon pose)
Tight glutes prevent you from achieving an aerodynamic position in the drops.

To work your glutes, kneel on the floor with one leg extended behind and the other bent at a 45-degree angle in front of you, ankle and knee touching the floor. Keeping your hips square, ease your pelvis toward the floor. Next, tilt forward and lower your chest toward the floor. Hold for 30 seconds, then repeat on the other side.

boho chic

Hey guys!! There is still time to enter my giveaway I guess I'll run it through next Wednesday, and see who all enters. :)

On a more serious note-  Lately, I keep hearing about bad things happening to good people all over the place. Innocent people being tainted, sweet souls being taken advantage of and positive people getting shot in the foot. All for what? Why do people think they can treat others like this. I was on the phone last night, talking about something similar to this. And I just don't understand how a person can treat another person as if they are no one. Whatever happened to compassion and truth and justice and respect and treating humans like beings? I feel like a complete "hippie" when I say this but the perspective of the world needs to change. People are treating objects like people and people like objects.

"Be the change you want to see in the world."
"Make the change you want to see in the world."

It's Giveaway Time

As promised, I'm hosting a giveaway. I thought it would be rad to give a gift, and believe me.. I'd LOVE to give something to everyone, but unfortunately I can only choose one. I will be choosing someone at random- and the winner will receive a lil sumpin' sumpin' ;)

Since I come from the Bay Area I thought it was only appropriate to share something from my favorite makeup line, Benefit Cosmetics. And since y'all know I love to cook and bake, I have also chosen two amazing BBQ rubs from Williams Sonoma- uber yum!! Plus, I don't know if the winner will be male or female.. So I had to make it a unisex prize.

Benefit Cosmetics has an amazing kit which includes: Stay don't stray (great for keeping your eye shadow.. Well, on your eyes) They're Real (serious lash candy here) and It's Potent (the best eye cream for younger brighter looking eyes). Plus it comes with a certificate for a free brow sesh at one of their brow bars!! Saweeet!!

Williams Sonoma has a great lineup of available rubs for all your summer BBQ's. The sriracha one enhances anything you put it on.. and it's got that great flavor, but it's not as hot as the original.. Don't worry it's still got some kick. The butchers rub is amazing on grilled chicken and pork tenderloin. I even use it as seasoning when baking fish.

To Enter: So there you have it boys and girls.. If you're interested in winning leave a comment on the bottom of this post with what your favorite summer activity is. Mine is probably enjoying a late dinner outside with good food and fun people. Or trips to the beach in the evening, having a picnic and watching the sunset.

Good luck!! Xo

Moto Italia

So when I started this online diary a couple years ago, I never thought people would read it. It's pages have been filled with my thoughts, emotions, experiences, likes, opinions, dislikes, interests and people I love.

When I'm passionate about something, I want to make you passionate about it too.

So... T H A N K    Y O U   R E A D E R S
I can't believe you've kept up and supported me, or at least liked the snaps that I post.

I am hosting a giveaway next week- details to come in the next post.

My blog hit 20,000 views this week. Maybe not so cool to you, but it's pretty rad in my book.. especially for something so unexpected. I never thought anyone would be interested and I certainly didn't start this for anyone but myself. I just wanted to document my life.

enjoii. ciao xo

James Franco is Hawt

...When I popped up to the City the other weekend for the San Francisco Film Festival, that was pretty much the only thing running through my head.

I went to see the independent film, Palo Alto, based on James Franco's book about growing up in the area. Directed by Gia Coppola, staring Emma Roberts, Jack Kilmer and James Franco. The movie itself was very well done. Emma Roberts surprised me because I am used to seeing her on American Horror Story and the character she portrayed in this film is very different from her usual bit. James Franco did an impeccable job of acting like a total creep, but if he was my soccer coach I would still be crushing. Jack Kilmer is an up and coming actor- haven't seen too many of his gigs yet, but I am looking forward to seeing him in future productions.

And, I can't wait for it to be released so that I can see it again.

I had such an amazing time, loved the interviews at the end and the after party held at Roe Restaurant.
If I could do it all over again, I would.. duh :)

When spring rolls around in California.. it brings with it the best harvest.

I am so in love with the fruits and vegetables that are in season right now.

The farmers market down the street from my house always has a great selection.
It's small but mighty, offering a wide range of products and produce.

While you are shopping this weekend, keep this list handy- because buying items that are in season can ensure you're getting the highest quality and best flavor.

Spring time Goodness (buy these)
Apricots :: Artichokes :: Asparagus :: Broccoli :: Collard greens :: Corn :: Honeydew
 Limes :: Mango :: Oranges :: Pineapple :: Spinach :: Strawberries
